Day 1 UK- Israel

Depart London Heathrow on El Al’s scheduled service to Tel Aviv Israel. Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport, where you will be met and given assistance by Diesenhaus Unitours representative. Transfer to the Hotel in Tel Aviv for overnight stay.

 

Day 2 Tel Aviv – The Galilee

Drive on to Caesarea; see the excavations of the Crusader City, the Herodian Port. Proceed to Mount Carmel, the site of the encounter between the Prophet Elijah and the Baal priests. Continue to Nazareth where Jesus spent his early years and visit Mary’s Well and the Church of the Annunciation. Just north of Nazareth is the village of Cana, the site of Jesus’ first miracle. Drive to Tiberias

 

Day 3– Sea of Galilee

Start the day with a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.  Onwards to Capernaum, centre of Jesus’ Ministry, – located here are the ruins of an ancient synagogue, and the site of Peter’s House. Visit Taghba and Mensa Christi, then to the Mount of Beatitudes. Transfer to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 4 – Old City of Jerusalem

Begin the day’s tour on the Mount of Olives for a breathtaking view of the entire city. See Bethpage, Chapel of the Ascension, Pater Noster Church. Walk down the traditional Palm Sunday route to, Dominus Flevit, the Church of All Nations and the Garden of Gethsemane. Tomb of Mary. Enter in Old City through St Stephen’s Gate, see Pool of Bethesda (Pool of the Five Porches)  & St Anne’s Church. Onwards to Flagellation, Sisters of Zion, Ecce Homo Church, walk the Via Dolorosa and enter the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.  End the day at the Garden Tomb

 

Day 5 – Dead Sea

Depart Jerusalem and descend the Judean Wilderness, via the Inn of the Good Samaritan, to the lowest place on earth-the Dead Sea. Drive along the shore to Massada and ascend by cable car. Tour this mountaintop fortress, which was the last stronghold of the Jews against the Romans. Drive to a nearby oasis and relax and enjoy an opportunity to “ float” in the Dead Sea. Before returning to Jerusalem, visit the Qumran caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.

 

Day 6 Israel – UK

Morning transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for your El Al flight to London Heathrow.

Day 1 –UK – Tel Aviv

Depart UK. Meeting and assistance by the ITS Pilgrimages representative and transfer to your hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 2 – Jerusalem/Bethlehem

Commence the day with a visit to Bethlehem. Visit Manger Square, the Church of The Nativity, view Shepherd’s Field and you will have an opportunity to buy some olive wood souvenirs from a Christian owned gift shop. Return to the Old City of Jerusalem, visit the Pool of Bethesda, where Jesus healed the blind man. Visit St Anne’s Church, (many consider this church enjoys the best acoustics in the Holy Land). You will walk the Via Dolorosa, (The Way of the Cross) ending in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

 

Day 3 – Jericho/Dead Sea/Tiberias

Full day sightseeing on transfer to Tiberias. Commence the day with a visit to Jericho and the Mt of Temptation, onwards to the Dead Sea and Qumeran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Time will be given for an opportunity to swim (float) in the Dead Sea. Drive down the Jordan Valley to Tiberias for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 4 – Sea of Galilee

Start the day with viewing the ancient boat found in the Sea of Galilee that dates back to the time of Jesus, and then enjoy a boat ride on the Lake. Visit the Mt of Beatitudes, the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount. Onwards to Tabgha, the site that commemorates Jesus’s miracle of the Fishes and the Loaves. See Mensa Christi – Peter’s Primacy on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Visit the ruins of Capernaum and see St Peter’s House and the Synagogue where it is said Jesus preached.  End the day at Yardent – on the shores of the Jordan River. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias

 

Day 5- Tiberias/ Nazareth/ Caesarea/ Ben Gurion Airport/ UK

Sightseeing on transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for your flight home – visit Nazareth  & Caesarea Maratima and then onwards to Ben Gurion for your flight

Day 01. Madrid

Arrival to Madrid. Reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 02. Madrid

Breakfast at the hotel. Starting the day with a panoramic view of the city of Madrid.

We will visit the most touristic points of the capital of Spain as Plaza de Cibeles, Parquedel Retiro, Paseo de la Castellana and Paseo del Prado, where we will see the most important museums of the city. Also we will visit the Palacio Real and Plaza Mayor. Free time during the afternoon. Dinner and night.

Day 03. Madrid/Zaragoza/Barcelona

Breakfast at the hotel. We will leave Madrid to go to Barcelona but first we will stop in Zaragoza to visit the Pilar Basilica. Also we will have some free time to enjoy the city centre and go back to the road to Barcelona. Dinner and night in Barcelona.

Day 04. Barcelona

After breakfast, we will enjoy all day doing a panoramic view of the city: Plaza de España, Plaza de Catalunya with their famous Ramblas, Paseo de Gracia with Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, of one of the most important modernist architect: Antoni Gaudí. And we will finish the visit in Sagrada Familia, masterpiece of this genius, still unfinished.

Free time during the afternoon. Dinner and night.

Day 05. Barcelona/Lourdes

Breakfast at the hotel. We will leave Barcelona to go to Lourdes. Arrival to Fatima and free time in the afternoon. Dinner and night.

Day 6. Lourdes

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will dedicate the time to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, the most important spiritual centre of France. In the evening, after dinner, we will enjoy the candlelight procession to the sanctuary. Dinner and night.

Day 7. Lourdes / Paris

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the train station, to take the TGV train to Paris.

Arrival to the hotel. We will do a panoramic view through the City of Lights, around the most important buildings as: Concorde Square, Tour Eiffel, Palais de Justice (Justice Palace), Notre Dame Cathedral, Champs Elysées Avenue and the Arch of Triumph. Dinner and night.

Day 8. Paris

Breakfast at the hotel. We will visit the Notre Dame de la Médaille Miraculeuse Chapel (Miraculous Medal Chapel). Will know the neighbourhood of Montmartre where it is located the Basilica of Sacred Heart. Afternoon free time (we give you different options: visit the Lafayette galleries or walk around the Champs Elysées Avenue). Dinner and night.

Day 9. Paris / Rome

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport to take the plane direction Rome.

Day 10. Rome

Breakfast at the hotel. Papal Audience (on request). After lunch we will visit the Saint Peter’s Basilica and a panoramic view through the Piazza Venezia, the Coliseum, the Constantine Arch, Sant Angelo Castle, the Fontana di Trevi, Pantheon and the Piazza Navona. Dinner and night.

Day 11. Rome / Assisi

Breakfast at the hotel. We will leave Rome to go to Assisi where we will visit the Santa Maria degli Angeli Basilica, the Santa Chiara Basilica and the San Francesco Papal Basilica (from 2000 World Heritage).Dinner and night.

Day 12. Assisi / Venice

After breakfast we will continue the trip direction Venice. We will take the Tronchetto to arrive to Venice. You will have free time to visit the San Marco Basilica and do a romantic gondola ride around the channels. Dinner and night in Mestre.

Day 13. Mestre / Milan / Return home

Breakfast at the hotel. We will leave Mestre to go to Milan, where we will visit the

Today you will visit the church of St. Mary of the Snows (sv.Marija Snjezna), where the Black Madonna was found in 1648 hidden in a wall of the church, just as the Turks were on the rise. Since then, the dark wooden statue, which one considers to be miraculous, is worshiped. After participating in the Mass, enjoy time at leisure. In the afternoon, a special experience is awaiting you: a workshop of gingerbread making! During this workshop you will be able to get in touch with local people and taste the famous Gverc, which is a drink made of honey and people used to call it the immortality drink because of its healing properties. Day 3 Sinj and Vepric – Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes

After breakfast head to Sinj and visit the Sinjska Gospa sanctuary. Continue to the Holy Shrine of Vepric, which is located in a harmonious natural setting, at the foot of the wooded hill. Day 4 Medjugorje – St James Church and Apparition Mountain

Before midday, you will arrive in Medjugorje, one of the largest Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world, comparable to Lourdes and Fatima. Countless pilgrims have found faith and peace in this place. Visit the St. James Church and participate in the Mass with a priest from Medjugorje. Walk  to the Apparition Mountain, where Our Lady first appearedto the visionaries of Medjugorje. Day 5 Medjugorje- ther Cross Mountain and Cenacolo centre

After breakfast participate in a walk to the Cross on Mt. Krizevac, which overlooks the village of Medjugorje. The Cross Mountain lead pilgrims to reflect upon thjeir relationship with God and what they need to change in their lives to draw closer to Him. In the afternoon visit  Cenacolo centre to see the huge statue of pulling out Adam and Eve from the grave, just as He will pull out drug addicts from the hell of their drugs. Day 6 Mostar and Sarajevo

Depart from Medjugorje and head for Mostar, known as a melting pot of cultures and religions, where east meets west and north meets south. Enjoy free time in the Old Bridge area of the old city of Mostar before you continue to Sarajevo, where your local guide will show you the most interesting sites of the old town. Enjoy dinner at a local tavern, followed by a Bosnian coffee before you check into your hotel.

Day 7 Banja Luka and Zagreb

Depart from Sarajevo after breakfast and drive north into the direction to Zagreb. Stop in Banja Luka, a beautiful town surrounded by rolling green hills. After some time at your leisure continue to the close by Mariastern Abbey, where you celebrate Mass. Socialise with the Trappist monks and try their cheese specialities.Continue to Zagreb, check into your hotel and enjoy dinner.

Day 8 Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, learn about the history of the city on a walking tour and enjoy the sites such as Stone Gate, St Mark’s church with its colourful roof and many more. In the afternoon enjoy free time before you will celebrate your farewell dinner at a local tavern with local specialities.

PASSION PLAY IN ERL 2019*

The term ‘passion’ – to suffer, get through, to experience- is primarily understood as the path of suffering of Jesus Christ in Christianity. This is impressively shown over 400 years now during the Passion play in Erl. The first play was in 1613 in Erl, meaning it is the oldest one in the area. Every six years, about 600 amateur actors of the 1450 residents of the town of Erl actively participate in the Passion play.

Day 1 (Thursday) Arrival

Arrival and check into your 3* hotel in the area of Kufstein/Kitzbuheler Alps. Enjoy a welcome drink followed by dinner.

Day 2 (Friday) Maria Kirchental and St. Johann in Tyrol

After breakfast, drive to the famous pilgrimage church Maria Kirchental. Amidst the Loferer Sterinberge (mountain range), it offers a very charming landscape. Enter the church and enjoy a few moments of peace and silence. Almost a magical attraction comes from the statue of Mary, but also look behind the altar-it will be worth it! For lunch go to the Kirchentalwirt and enjoy an excellent meal. Continue to St. Johann in Tirol. Here you will have some free time to visit the weekly farmer’s market- where you can try local foods and admire the handmade art pieces. A perfect opportunity to shop for some souvenirs.

Day 3 (Saturday) Innsbruck, Hofkirche, and Hungerburg funicular

Today visit the capital of Tyrol – Innsbruck. A guided walking tour will show you all the highlights of the city, including the court church. In there, 28 black stone figures keep watch.  Afterwards take the Hungerburg funicular up the mountain, where you will have a fantastic view of the city.

Day 4 (Sunday) Passion Play Erl

Following your breakfast, you have the opportunity to visit the holy mass in the passion play house, which starts at 10.00am (only on Sundays). At 1.00pm the passion play starts. Around 600 amateur actors, all from the town of Erl, will impressively display Christ’s ordeal. The choir and orchestra summon up the even with the especially composed Passion music.

Enjoy a relaxing morning before travelling to the medieval walled town of Rattenberg, the smallest city in Tyrol, also known as the provincial home of glass and crystal. Visit one of the showrooms and perhaps see the artisans at work painting and engraving crystal and glassware. The journey to Lake Achen, the largest Alpine lake in Tyrol, offers breath-taking views of the Inn and Ziller Valleys. Perhaps enjoy a scenic boat cruise across the lake, (not included).

Day 4 Wilder Kaiser Mountains and Kitzbuhel Alps Tours

Enjoy a scenic circular trip around the Wilder Kaiser or Wild Emperor Mountains and the Kitzbuhel Alps. Journey via the pretty lakeside town of Walchsee and the market town of St. Johann in Tirol, to the internationally famous alpine resort of Kitzbuhel. Wander down the cobblestone streets of this charming town, before joining a horse-drawn carriage ride. Continue along the scenic Brixen Valley via Worgl to Kufstein. This medieval towm, known as the Pearl of Tyrol, houses an impressive fortress. It is the home to Heroes’Organ, the largest free standing organ in the world. Return to your hotel and following dinner, enjoy a traditional Tyrolean folklore evening (coach maybe required)

Day 5 Salzburg

The hills around Salzburg are alive with the sound of music. Let ‘The Sound of Music City Tour’ show you the historic sights, as well as some of the film locations of this iconic movie. See Leopoldskron Palace, Frohnburg Palace, the impressive Mirabell Palace Gardens and much more. Watch out for the trick fountains in the gardens of the 17th century baroque Hellbrunn Palace. There will be some free time to explore this great city at your own pace before you return to your hotel.

 

Day 6 Journey to Oberammergau and the Passion Play

Journey this morning to the Oberammergau region. Lunch will be served before the Passion Play which commences at 2.30pm.Dinner will be served in the three hour interval (between 5.00pm until 08.00pm) and the performance will finish at approximately 10.30pmn. Return to your accommodation.

After breakfast – transfer to Rome Airport for flight home. Take Jet2 flight from Fiumicino Airport departing at 12.10hrs and landing at terminal 1 at Manchester Airport.

Margaret Curtis read Classics at Cambridge, specialising in Greek philosophy and Patristic theology, and went on to take a PhD in Greek philosophy at Manchester. She has worked in Adult Education for many years, principally as an Associate Lecturer with the Open University, where she taught Greek, Latin and a variety of courses in Classical Studies. She is also involved in the training of Methodist Local Preachers, teaching Old and New Testament Studies and Christian Doctrine as well as the practical aspects of preaching. She continues to teach Greek, Latin and Classical Studies privately, and to organise field trips, theatre visits and study tours. In conjunction with ITS, she has led Classical-interest study tours to Athens and the Argolid, the Bay of Naples, and Rome and its environs during the last twelve years.
