MAZEL TOV – BAR/BAT MITZVAH FAMILY PROGRAM 11 NIGHTS / 12 DAYS

DAY 1 – UK – Israel
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport, where our local representatives, Diesenhaus – Unitours will help you with formalities. Transfer to hotel for overnight stay in Tel Aviv

DAY 2 – Tel Aviv
Sightseeing tour of Tel Aviv, the city that never sleeps. Included are the Disapora Museum which tells the history of the Jewish people in other lands. Rabin Memorial, and Independence Hall where David Ben Gurion declared Israel’s independence in 1948. Continue to the Nahalat Benyamin Street fair featuring local artisans. Drive to Jaffa, an ancient port city and picturesque artists’ quarter.

DAY 3 – At leisure

DAY 4 – Tel Aviv – Kibbutz
Depart Tel Aviv and drive along the coastal road to Caesarea and view the archaeological ruins of this ancient Herodian port city. Byzantine centre and Crusader stronghold. Continue to Haifa to view the golden domed Baha’i Temple situated in the beautiful Persian Gardens. Enjoy the panoramic view of the city and the bay from Mt. Carmel. Visit the Hapala Museum which tells the story of clandestine immigration and the history of the Israeli navy. Later in the afternoon drive to Rosh Hanikra. Go down to the grottos by cable car and learn about the formation of the cliffs.

DAY 5 – Kibbutz
Today’s tour will begin in Safed centre of Jewish Mysticism since the Middle Ages. Visit the Old Jewish Quarter with its many synagogues. Stroll the narrow streets and see the many art galleries. Leave the city for an exciting jeep ride tour through the Golan Heights. Enjoy home hospitality in a Druze village. Continue by bus to the “Good Fence” at Metulla. The last stop today will be a hike through the Tel Dan Nature Reserve located at the site of the ancient Israelite settlement, Dan.

DAY 6 – Kibbutz – Jerusalem
Leave the Upper Galilee for Arbel and take a donkey ride in this once famous Jewish Centre. Continue to Tiberias, one of the four Holy cities. Drive south to Bet Shean, dating back more than 5000 years, where excavations have revealed 18 levels of history. Visit Beit Alpha and see the ruins of an ancient synagogue with its mosaic floor. Time permitting, swim in the warm, natural spring waters at Gan Hashlosha (Sachne). Continue through the Jordan Valley Rift to Jerusalem

DAY 7 – Jerusalem
Start the day with a drive, via the Knesset to Hadassah Medical Centre to view the Chagall Windows depicting the twelve tribes of Israel. In a nearby forest, take a few moments to plant a tree. Proceed to the Yad Vashem Memorial to the Holocaust and then to Mt. Herzl to view the grave of the late Yitzhak Rabin. End the day with a visit to the Israel Museum to see the scale model of ancient Jerusalem in the time of the Second Temple. Also visit the Shrine of the Book housing the Dead Sea Scrolls.

DAY 8 – MAZELTOV!
Enter the Old City of Jerusalem and walk to the Western Wall. Celebrate the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Ceremony. After the ceremony, continue to the Jewish Quarter and view the reconstructed Cardo, Herodian Mansions and synagogues. Continue to the Tower of David Museum depicting 3,000 years of Jerusalem’s history. During the afternoon, visit ammunition Hill, and learn about the battle to reunite Jerusalem during the Six Day War.

DAY 9 – Jerusalem – Dead Sea – Jerusalem
Descend through the Judean Wilderness, via the Inn of the Good Samaritan, to the lowest place on earth – the Dead Sea. Drive along the shore to the base of Masada the last stronghold of the Jews against the Romans. Ascend by cable car and tour this mountaintop fortress including Herod’s palace, an ancient synagogue and a bathhouse. After descending, drive to a nearby oasis and enjoy an opportunity to “float” in the unique waters of the Dead Sea. Before returning to your hotel, visit the Qumran caves, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.

DAY 10 – At Leisure

DAY 11 – Jerusalem area
This morning “touch your roots” by participating in an archaeological dig located at Tel Marisha in Beit Guvrin area. Work with archaeologists and learn about methodology via the Amatzya, a complex of caves, tunnels and passageways.

DAY 12 – Israel – UK
Leave Jerusalem and transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for your flight home to the UK.
