If you want to make New Year’s resolutions that fit in with your faith, you may want to look at these suggestions for 2016.
Many of us make resolutions every January to improve ourselves in some way, but they rarely end up being honoured. 2016 is the year to ensure that God features more in your life, and to spread the gospel of Christ. If you want to commit to letting God into your life but don’t know where to start, you may want to look at these possible resolutions.
1. Pray more
Often when we face a time of hardship, it can be too easy to pray as a last resort. It can be tempting to try and fix things ourselves, rather than asking God for help. The Bible tells us that we should make of requests known to God through prayer.
You will find that whenever you purposefully turn the situation to God, He will always take care of it in a far better way than you can imagine. By getting your priorities in tune to God’s will, your endeavours will be in line with what God wants for you.
2. Read the entire Bible
Whilst The Bible has many writers, it has only one author: God. From the very first page to the last, The Bible will speak to your heart, body and soul. The Bible contains the story of everything, from Creation to Eternity. By reading The Bible through, you will undoubtedly feel truly blessed. You may find some parts that are difficult to read and fully understand, but reading the entire Bible will help you see how everything fits together. You will finish the experience with a deeper knowledge of God, which is definitely worth the possibly difficult task of reading it through.
3. Study The Bible
The words of Christ are eternal life, and there is no other book as important as The Bible. The Bible is more foundational to everything than any book on maths, medicine or philosophy, so the importance of really understanding it is critical. We need to study the Word of God in order to know Him and please Him.
The most important New Year’s resolution is to put your trust in Jesus Christ. Many people will have chosen to lose weight, quit smoking or be nicer to people, but to see the most wonderful and meaningful changes to your life, there is no other way apart from Christ.
